Join Iona Fyfe for a workshop in group Scots Singing. No prior experience needed. All resources and lyrics will be provided. We will learn 2-3 traditional songs from the North East of Scotland in the Doric dialect of the Scots language.

Iona Fyfe is one of Scotland’s most sought after folksingers and tutors. The first singer to win the coveted title of Musician of the Year at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards, Iona has toured extensively across Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, performing her solo show and delivering singing workshops and lectures.

Join Michael Biggins for a workshop in accompaniment. We will select a few tunes and work on accompaniment. Any and all instruments are welcome to attend. Imagine it as a sort of Trad/Folk Ensemble. This class will be aimed at intermediate to advanced players, however any musicians with a basic knowledge of harmony are welcome to attend. Emphasis will be placed on pushing boundaries and modernising these accompaniments whilst remaining true to the traditional style.

Michael is a highly accomplished multi-instrumentalist from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, now based in Glasgow. Renowned for his versatility and artistry, he performs and tours with acclaimed groups including TRIP, The Canny Band and Tom McConville. In January 2021, Michael was awarded the prestigious title of BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year, solidifying his reputation as one of the most exciting talents in the folk and traditional music scene.

Dylan’s fiddle workshop is aimed at intermediate players. Dylan will teach a number of trad tunes with an interest in encouraging participants to develop their personal style through tune deconstruction and the introduction of external influences and ideas.

Based in Glasgow, Dylan is a traditional fiddler, guitarist, and hurdy-gurdy player. He has performed across Europe with a number of acts including Iona Fyfe, Dallahan, Sketch, and his duo with Sam Mabbett (The Canny Band, The Unprepared). More locally, he has played countless weddings and events with numerous ceilidh and function bands, such as Bahookie, Corra, and the Sultans of Fling.

In 2021, Dylan—along with Neil Wood—co-founded the Folks’ Music Project Cic which aims to provide low-cost traditional music education to adults and children in the greater Glasgow area. The project has seen success in building new traditional music communities in Neilston and Barrhead and was nominated for Community Project of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2022.
