Aberdeen Bach Choir: America!
Aberdeen Bach Choir presents a glittering evening of American music featuring Morten Lauridsen's beautiful 'Lux Aeterna' and Leonard Bernstein's 'Chichester Psalms', an astonishing work celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025. We will perform Samuel Barber's three choruses of 'Reincarnations' composed in 1937 and 1940, each based on a poem by Irishman James Stephens (1882 - 1950). Barber's 'Sure on this Shining Night' will also feature along with the Eric Whitacre's highly original 'Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine' and David Del Tredici's 'Acrostic Song', based on a Lewis Carroll poem from Through the Looking Glass. Expect a feast of texture, harmony and dissonance!
We are delighted to be accompanied this December by Andrew Forbes on Organ, Director of Music at Glasgow Cathedral. We are also excited to once again welcome guest concert harpist Sharron Griffiths. Sharron is currently Guest Principal Harpist at Scottish Opera and this will be her second time performing alongside Aberdeen Bach Choir. Percussion features heavily the Chichester Psalms and for this we will be joined by fantastic percussionist Chris Overton, who lives in Aberdeenshire and performs throughout Scotland.
