Aikey Brae Stone Circle

About Aikey Brae Stone Circle

Aikey Brae Stone Circle is the most intact Recumbent Stone Circle in northern Aberdeenshire. It features five standing stones, including the impressive recumbent and its eastern flanker, along with five fallen stones, including the western flanker. The stones are set on a circular bank of small stones and earth measuring around 14.4 metres in diameter, with kerbing formed by slab-like stones on both the inner and outer edges.

Most of the circle’s stones are granite, although the fallen western flanker and the massive recumbent are made of whinstone. The recumbent itself is estimated to weigh an incredible 21.5 tonnes.
