Climate Cafe - Heat pumps for all?: Sharing experiences and community solutions
North East Scotland College: Aberdeen City Campus
Gallowgate

AB25 1BN
Everybody is talking about heat pumps. Decarbonising the way we heat our home is one of the big three actions our country needs to do to live sustainably on the planet (along with the way we travel and the way we make and use food). Hear more about heat pumps from people who are doing it.
Erik Dalhuijsen, ACA co-founder, engineer and heat pump owner will talk about Air-to-air heat pump installation and user experience.
Nick Forbes, builder, Daviot, Aberdeenshire will talk about Sealing and insulating existing housing stock in preparation for subsequent installation of heat pump or biogas heating systems.
Matt Clubb, Architectural designer will talk about Street-by-street, archetype retrofit and community-based solutions. Community based models of home retrofit offer optimum solutions ,which also engage the local economy. will discuss case studies in Aberdeenshire, and further afield, to initiate audience discussion of potential infrastructure and financing systems
Ken Gordon, engineer and ground source enthusiast will talk about Ground source heat pumps for communities. While ground source heat pumps have a higher initial installation cost than air-to-air systems, they are more efficient in the long term. Ken has installed his own GSHP system. He will show how shared heating schemes for groups of houses can help reduce their installation costs. New strategic plans by Ofgem are making such installations easier to install, so choosing GSHPs makes good sense.
Then we will have a Q&A session.
The event will start at 7pm but feel free to come in to NESCOL from 6:30 as there is a cafe so you can get a drink and socialise with the other attendees. Please note, the easiest way to find the Climate Cafe is to use the Loch Street entrance to NESCol.
