Macleod’s Corner

The world’s only monument honouring Professor John J.R. Macleod resides in Aberdeen’s beautiful Duthie Park, where it was unveiled in October 2023 to mark the centenary of Macleod’s Nobel Prize award for the co-discovery of insulin. The memorial features a life-sized bronze figure of Macleod seated on a bronze bench, with an inlaid foundation of reclaimed Aberdeen granite. Scotland’s first ‘Storytelling Statue’ has a recorded monologue and short film accessible via a QR code displayed at the memorial site. Macleod’s Corner is a featured location on the city’s “Insulin Trail” walking map.
