Benholm and Johnshaven Heritage Museum
Benholm and Johnshaven Heritage Society is a charity run by a dedicated group of volunteers who are passionate about preserving the history and heritage of our local area.
Our museum is located in the centre of the historic fishing village of Johnshaven within the Old Lifeboat House which was established in 1891. It is a listed building within the conservation area and therefore is very important to the village. Our main aim is to keep the stories of our past alive for future generation and we do this by:
- curating annual exhibitions during the summer season (April - September);
- working in partnership with local schools, museums and businesses;
- hosting events to share our local heritage with wider audiences;
- writing and publishing books to record our history;
- archiving our records;
- and helping people to trace their ancestors and explore their family trees and roots in Benholm and Johnshaven.
