In memory of our good friend Renee Slater who passed away this summer and commissioned this tour many years back.
Beginning in defiance of the Duke of Gordon, we tell the story of his wife, Dame Jean Gordon, nee Maxwell, who recruited likely young lads for the Gordon Highlanders back in the 1790s, and including Aberdeen's opera diva, Mary Garden, a star on both sides of the Atlantic, Joan Eardley, painter, who made her home in Catterline and exhibited in Aberdeen's old Gaumont Cinema, and Caroline Phillips, a true suffragette, one of the city's first women journalists who infamously fell out with Emeline Pankhurst, the powerhouse of English Women's sufferage.

Many others will get a mention as we follow a short route across the city from Golden Square to Castlegate, showcasing our local and not so local quines who made their mark on Aberdeen's history.

Terrain is all pavements - probably suitable for most abilities. Dogs welcome if socialised and traffic savvy, as we are on and off Union Street most of the time.

Meet at the Duke of Gordon Statue in Golden Square
Finish in front of the High Court Annexe, Castlegate, next door to the Wig pub.
