There are legends to be scaled – mystical Bennachie that holds such sway in Aberdonians’ hearts and Munros to be bagged, try Lochnagar or Mount Keen. Countryside in Aberdeenshire is vast with ancient forests, great estates and heathery moors are just waiting to be discovered by walkers.

Inland be stirred by the mountainous and river views along the 41mile-long Deeside Way (you can walk or cycle it), running from the centre of Aberdeen to Ballater in the Cairngorms National Park. 

Stride out along the wide expansive sands that stretch for miles along the Aberdeenshire coast. And on your way walk through some of the most picturesque coastal fishing villages in Scotland. Take a relaxed walk through the 18th century built Pennan – made famous by the film Local Hero which was filmed here in the 1980’s.

If you’re staying in the city centre and simply want to see all the sights in a short space of time walking is a great way to get around. The city has a variety of walking tours too, guiding you through the various areas of interest and historic importance.  

Whether you choose to take on the mountains, sandy dunes or see the city sights up close you won’t miss spectacular rugged countryside, impressive architecture and coastal views.
