The Grassic Gibbon Centre celebrates the life and writings of James Leslie Mitchell, the novelist of the Mearns, better known by his pen name Lewis Grassic Gibbon. The Centre stands at the heart of the community of Arbuthnott in which Mitchell spent his formative years and which inspired his greatest writing, Sunset Song. It acts as a focus for activities promoting this major literary figure of local, national and international significance while also accommodating a broader concern to promote an understanding of the history and culture of the area. The Centre brings Mitchell into sharp relief. Permanent features include story boards and audio-visual facility tracing the author's life and work. Unique exhibits include books, personal effects and mementos belonging to Mitchell as well as original artefacts of social, cultural and historical interest.

As well as the exhibition the Centre contains a café featuring home baked and home cooked food, a gift shop and Post Office. The Centre is unique, it is run as a social enterprise and registered charity.

It has disabled access throughout, free Wi-Fi, Car Parking, electric vehicle charging point and Outdoor Children's Play Area.

It is situated on the B967 and is signposted and accessible from both the A90 and A92.

Café serving hot meals and snacks throughout the day all prepared on the premises. Home baking available throughout the day.

Also, take away home baking, jams & jellies.
