Create unique prints inspired by the intricate art of Scrimshaw, known for its bold black lines and decorative qualities.

Scrimshaw originated in the 19th century, crafted by seafarers aboard whaling ships. To pass the time during long voyages, they engraved detailed images onto sperm whale teeth and bones using sailmaker needles. The engraved marks were then highlighted with soot, chalk, and tobacco juice, creating striking and detailed artwork.

Artist Lisa Gribbon will guide you through monoprinting and embossing techniques, enriching your images with textures and distinctive marks.
