Cheapo: chess slang for a primitive trap, often set in the hope of swindling a win from a lost position.
After school at his local KFC, Jamie is setting up to play chess with his best pal as usual. But his class-mate Kyla turns up instead, forcing Jamie to play with her as she needs something from him that her whole life depends on.
As they place their pieces on the board, Jamie and Kyla also piece together the night that changed both of their lives, which is anything other than black and white.
Cheapo is a new high-stakes drama by Katy Nixon, current winner of the David MacLennan Award, about two teenagers growing up in a world that treats them like adults.
Produced by A Play, A Pie and A Pint at Òran Mór, co-presented with Traverse Theatre.
