Were putting on Shrapnel, the award-winning Gaelic play adapted from Tormod Caimbeuls novel of the same name but we have one day only! We are delighted that actor Artair Donald will be directing this bi-lingual drama workshop From theatre games to scene staging, Artair will guide us through the world of Gaelic theatre with expertise and humour. The day will begin with a few games and a bi-lingual read-through of the script. In smaller groups, we will work on scenes of your choice, staging them for one other at the end of the workshop all while benefitting from Artairs expert direction!

Shrapnel is Catriona Lexy Campbells adaptation of the seminal Gaelic novel of the same title by renowned novelist, Tormod Caimbeul. With anarchic humour and powerful narrative tension, it follows the journey of an enigmatic narrator as he tries to evade capture for a crime he didn't commit. Set in the darkest depths of Leith, the novel draws on Tormod Caimbeul's first-hand experience of living in Edinburgh in the 1970s, but the piece also has a timeless quality. The story moves at an energetic pace as our narrator treads a sordid path through the city meeting an array of extraordinary misfits, and avoiding the psychopathic former detective, Walter Shrapnel, who is convinced that our narrator tried to murder him.Theatre Gu Ler won the Arts and Culture Award at the Scottish Gaelic Awards 2016 for Shrapnel.Video and further information on the play:https://www.theatreguleor.com/shrapnel

No theatre experience necessary to take part! The workshop is suitable for Gaelic speakers and learners of all levels. Through this event, we hope to strengthen connections between Gaelic community groups in Aberdeen, bring multiple generations of speakers together, and open a window into the world of Gaelic drama. There will be free coffee, tea, sandwiches and snacks available for participants.
