Classical Legacies - a poetry reading with A E Stallings
Join us for an afternoon of music and poetry in the delightful surroundings of Haddo House Library.
The Fourth Earl of Aberdeen was a noted classicist, and among the most classically-minded of modern poets is A. E. Stallings. Celebrated for her formal poise and wit, Stallings is a master of poetic craft, writing brilliantly of life spent between cultures and languages as an American poet living in Greece. In addition to her poetry, Stallings is a distinguished translator and essayist, and in 2023 was elected the Oxford Professor of Poetry.
The afternoon will begin with a short recital of piano music by Chopin, Liszt and Tchaikovsky, given by Harry Wood, Head Boy of Robert Gordon College. Harry’s tutor at North East Scotland Music School is distinguished pianist and friend of Haddo, Nigel Clayton.
Frédéric Chopin: Fantaisie Impromptu
Franz Liszt: Un Sospiro
Petr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: June
Tea and coffee will be served after the reading.
This special event is in association with the University of Aberdeen.
