True North Sessions: Rebecca Dunn
Aberdeen-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rebecca Dunn is inspired by nature, the weather, and communities. Her work reflects on our connections to the natural world and explores themes that bridge the gap between earth, culture, community and belonging. Rebecca’s debut EP, ‘Nice Day, Isn’t It?’, released in May 2023, celebrates the community gardens that kept many neighbourhoods connected throughout lockdown. Inspired by conversations about the weather with local Aberdonian community garden groups, the songs explore the effect the unpredictable and often extreme weather in Scotland has on people’s moods and routines, as well as the language used to describe it. Nice Day, Isn’t It? was born out of a project for Aberdeen Performing Arts’ Wonderland Festival 2022, which explored our connection to nature and green spaces when living in a city.
