Originally used as a tool for the weaver to test how yarns would interact on the loom, yarn windings open the vast possibility of closely exploring patterns, colour changes and juxtaposition of fibres through various methods. Join us as we explore its vast potential as an artistic practice and gain newfound sensory experiences through experimentation.

The last two sessions are designed towards creating a larger piece of fibre work. Using weaving methods and yarn structures alongside experimental components. Colour structures, endless colour combinations and a unique artistic expression will be achieved by unlocking your creativity and follow your intuition.

If you are only able to join us for session 3 or 4, a smaller piece will be produced. If you have DK cotton yarns or weaving threads that you would like to incorporate in your piece, please feel free to bring these along.

The workshops are led by fibre artist Stephanie Fradette, an Aberdeenshire-based artist who blends bold colours into her woven, knotted, and tufted wall hangings, showcasing rich textures, contemporary design and craftsmanship. She has recently published her first book “Playful Peg Loom Weaving” and has taught workshops across Scotland sharing the creative possibilities of fibre art.
