In this new play by Martin McCormick, we join Maggie in her cell, beaten and bruised and waiting for the sentence of her death by burning to be carried out. Maggie has always been loved and she has always been different but her mam can’t protect her now. She doesn’t stand a chance. The village she has grown up in has turned on her, the law men and church men have decided she’s a virus that needs to be dealt with. She knows everyone is scared of the swift suspicion that has caught up with her but she is the one facing it alone.

The Maggie Wall explores the vulnerability of women and injustices suffered by them in a patriarchal and closed community that resonate with contemporary experiences, as well as reminding us of a chapter of Scottish and British history in which many people, predominately women, were accused, tried and killed as suspected witches.
