Song for Haddo 2020: Fables and Foibles

This event has now passed. Visit our what's on calendar to view our current events.

A performance by McOpera and over 150 children and young people from Aberdeenshire schools as part of the Haddo Arts Festival's digital programme.

In the entrance to Haddo House hangs a series of paintings depicting scenes from Aesop's timeless fables.

Join the musicians of McOpera and an online cast of over 150 children and young people from Aberdeenshire schools, in a musical re-telling of 7 of the most enduring tales. These stories inspire us to keep our heads, learn about ourselves and respond creatively to these challenging times amidst frenetic social media activity and advancing technology - something which our Hare finds very difficult to do!

This year’s virtual performance has also given us the opportunity to extend the reach of the Haddo musical community, drawing together both participants from previous Song for Haddo projects and making links with East Lothian’s children’s choir, Dunbar Voices.

'Fables and Foibles' is composed by Moira Morrison and Peter Kemp for children's voices and mentored wind ensemble.

The programme will end with a reprise of the original Song for Haddo. Composed by Moira Morrison as part of Haddo Arts Festival’s participation in the Snape Maltings Friday Afternoon Songs project in 2017, this magical song has featured in every Haddo Arts Festival since.
