Now in our 4th year of hugely popular shows at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, and following three acclaimed shows in Aberdeen in 2024 & 2025, Queer Folks’ Tales continues touring around Scotland, returning with another fantabulosa line up for Aberdeen. Queer storytellers and performers deliver hilarious, moving, occasionally shocking stories galore about queer lives with many true stories of LGBTQ+ experience in Scotland today. Hosted by Edinburgh’s Turan Ali (producer of BBC drama/comedy), who is joined on August 8th by acclaimed writer/performers Jo Gilbert, Ian Macartney, and Molly McLachlan.

Turan Ali has been producing, directing and writing BBC Radio dramas and comedies for over 20 years. He also performs on stage as a storyteller with monthly shows in Vienna, as well as producing/hosting Queer Folks’ Tales around Scotland every 8 weeks. As a stand-up he performs across Europe and his latest solo show Straight Talking had sold out shows in Vienna and Istanbul.
Jo Gilbert is a spoken word artist and writer from Aberdeen. Their work has featured on STV news, BBC Radio 4 (Tongue and Talk), and in exhibitions, films and even a mural. They’ve also been involved with StAnza Poetry Festival, Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, National Theatre of Scotland, Aberdeen Performing Arts. Their debut poetry collection WTF is normal anyway? was nominated for a Scots Language award in 2023.
Ian Macartney works with words, sounds, images and people. Publications include Shale Bings, languishing, cute, The Infinite Fury & other stories, and in The Poetry Review, PROTOTYPE, The Guardian. He’s written film screenplays and 2 commissions for BBC Scotland, The Heart’s Constant and Four Years, plus electronica audio-verse-drama The Fox & the Hiker. He co-founded arts collective Re-Analogue & fronts dance-punk band Texture Texture.
Molly McLachlan is a writer, performer and doctoral student researching the intersections between human rights law and the arts. Molly orbits between Aberdeen and Glasgow, and is currently based in the latter city. She has featured at literary events and festivals across Scotland and is the two-time winner of the Inn Deep Poetry Slam; her work appears in publications by Speculative Books, Scumbag Press and Leopard Arts.
