Photography Workshops: Capturing the Light
Learn how to make full use of your camera in this photography workshop.
Spend the day learning how to take full control of your camera and be more creative in your picture taking. This workshop will show you how to use the manual controls and by the end of the day you will be fully conversant with the aperture, shutter, speed and ISO settings on your camera. We will look at composition, such as the rule of thirds and using ‘lines’ through your photos to add more impact. You will learn how and why they work. I will explain how to produce a narrow depth of field so that the subject is in focus and the background is out of focus. With a maximum of six participants I will be able to spend time with each person individually and help you with any issues you have during the practical sessions Lunch is provided by the wonderful Crathes Café as part of the cost. How the Workshop will Run The first half of the morning we will be in the classroom learning about the manual controls. There will be practical sessions in the classroom as part of this. After coffee the subject will be composition and how to use those controls you have learned to get the best photo.Following a lunch break we will spend the first part of the afternoon outside in the grounds of National Trust for Scotland’s wonderful Crathes Castle putting into practice the new techniques and I will work with each individual in turn as you take photos. Then its back inside for tea/coffee to look at the photos and find out where we have all got it right and where improvements can still be made.
What you will need: A camera that will permit full manual control is required to get the most from this course. Such as a DSLR or Mirrorless camera. As long as your camera has some way of permitting control of aperture, shutter speed and ISO then it will be fine. A tripod would be useful and if you have your camera's instruction manual please bring it along.
