Matt Carmichael Quartet

Matt Carmichael is an 19 year old tenor/alto saxophonist and composer originally from the highlands of Scotland. He began playing saxophone aged 11 and was introduced to Jazz music a few years later by teacher Allon Beauvoisin. He was inspired to take music more seriously after hearing Scottish groups such as Brass Jaw, SNJO and TSYJO. Matt is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and regulary performs around Scotland with bands including The Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra, National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, The Mark Hendry Octet, fat Suit and many more. Performing highlights to date include Newport Jazz Festival USA, BBC Proms, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Dundee Jazz Festival and Aberdeen Jazz Festival. Matt has released his debut EP which has already had radio play on BBC Scotland and is a finalist of Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year. ‘Fast becoming one of the leading lights in Scottish Jazz.
