James Brown Is Annie
Six piece Scottish funk band.
James Brown Is Annie are a terrific six-piece funk/groove band based out of Edinburgh that Alan Gorrie of the Average White Band described as 'The Tartan Special of Funk'. Formed in 2010 the band writes and performs original material influenced by the likes of Steely Dan, Little Feat and (of course) the Average White Band (who famously came from just down the road in Glasgow).
They have performed at venues and festivals all over Scotland, including the ABC in Glasgow (with pioneering soul-funk band, The Family Stone), the main stage at the Belladrum Festival, the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, Queen's Hall (supporting Average White Band), The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh and performing in front of 80,000 revellers at the 2011/12 Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party on the Waverley Stage.
In 2014 they recorded their debut album produced by and featuring AWB’s Molly Duncan which also featured a song written by Alan Gorrie exclusively for the band.
The band is: Eddie Miller (piano/vocals), Aki Remally (guitar/vocals), Jonny White (sax), Barry Gordon (guitar), Brett Allan (bass) and Davide Rinaldi (drums).
