Kathryn Harkup is a science communicator known for her fun, informative talks, and the author of two books: A is for Arsenic, about the 14 poisons used in Agatha Christie’s novels, and Making the Monster, about the science behind Frankenstein. In today’s talk you’ll meet a host of Scottish poisoners, including Madeline Smith, the Glasgow socialite caught up in a sex scandal when accused of poisoning her lover with arsenic in 1857, and London-based Thomas Neill Cream, whose weapon was strychnine, who was a candidate for Jack the Ripper.
