Celebrating 700 Years of the Stocket Charter
Celebrate the 700th anniversary of the Stocket Charter with an informative talk on the charter and Robert the Bruce.
“By our present charter confirmed to our burgesses and community of our burgh of Aberdeen.”
The 10th December marks the 700th ‘birthday’ of the Stocket Charter, granted by Robert the Bruce to Aberdeen in 1319.
While many Aberdonians and visitors to the city will be familiar with the sculpted version of the charter which Bruce is holding aloft outside Marischal College, this event will provide an opportunity to see the original document and to understand more about the origin and context of this pivotal document in the city’s history.
