Grampian Concert Orchestra, under regular conductor Tim Tricker, is thrilled once again to share a stage in Aberdeen with the astoundingly talented violin prodigy, Leo Strelle, who will perform Robert Schumann’s D minor Violin Concerto.
Schumann’s only Violin Concerto, completed almost exactly 171 years ago, near the end of his life, was unfortunately lost to the world for about 80 years after his death, finally re-surfacing in the 1930s, with the help of a séance (allegedly!) and Yehudi Menuhin who, after playing it through himself, stated that it was “the historically missing link of the violin literature”.
The orchestra will partner the concerto with Beethoven’s “King Stephen” Overture and after the interval will perform the wonderfully evocative and lyrical Slavonic Dances, Opus 46, from the pen of another genius, Antonin Dvořák.
Please come along and help us to support affordable live music. There will be complimentary soft drinks available at the interval.
