Braemar Gathering
Princess Royal & Duke of Fife Memorial Park
Broombank Terrace
Braemar
AB35 5YX
Traditional Highland games with piping, Highland dancing and strong events including tossing the caber, throwing the hammer and putting the stone. There are also running races and a tug of war.
There has been gatherings of some sort at Braemar for 900 years!
This year also sees the travelling of the Lonach Highlanders over the hills to join in the celebrations of the Braemar Friendly Society’s 200th anniversary to be celebrated on the day of the Braemar Games itself.
This will certainly be a day steeped in tradition as well as athletic prowess to be savoured by all on this rare occasion, which was last celebrated when Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second inspected the colours presented to The Lonach Highland and Friendly Society in 1991, a quarter of a century ago, when the Lonach Highlanders walked from Strathdon to Braemar, a distance of approximately 20 miles and led by the Lonach pipe band.
A fantastic day all round!
