Rowers from Aberdeen and Robert Gordon Universities battle it out along 3.5 km of the river Dee in the Scottish version of the Boat Race.

Historic rowing rivalries will bubble up to the surface as the Aberdeen Standard Investments Boat Race returns for the 25th year to the River Dee in March. Robert Gordon University (RGU) has laid down a challenge to rivals from the University of Aberdeen to claim bragging rights over the river in the event’s milestone year.

Spectators are encouraged to line the riverbanks along the course – which stretches from the Bridge of Dee to Aberdeen Boat Club – to cheer on the crews as they battle to lift the silverware in Scotland’s equivalent of the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.

In last year’s race, the University of Aberdeen’s mixed crew easily clinched the title in seven minutes 53.6 seconds – winning the trophy back from RGU, who won in 2018. This year there is even more at stake, with the victors crowned champions of the anniversary race.

The title race begins at 5.00pm, but there is plenty of rowing action for all the family to enjoy throughout the day. The toss for stations takes place at 2.50pm, during which the crews decide which side of the river they will row on. This is followed by the second crews race at 3.35pm, the alumni race at 3.55pm and the media challenge at 4.40pm.
