Handel: Overture and Arrival of the Queen of Sheba from Solomon Vivaldi: Gloria (soloists Moira Docherty and Tara Leiper) Beethoven: Eroica Symphony
For this concert, which sees the return of Aberdeen Sinfonietta’s Principal Conductor Garry Walker, the orchestra is joined by the well-known Aberdeen choir Con Anima for a performance of Vivaldi’s dramatic and colourful Gloria. The two soloists are drawn from the choir, as would have happened in Vivaldi’s day. Handel’s oratorio Solomon is best known for the brilliant prelude to Act III, the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba. The concert concludes with undoubtedly one of the greatest of all symphonies, Beethoven’s “Eroica” symphony.
