What's on in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire this September

Summer will soon be leaving us, and what a summer it has been, but no need to fret as the events calendar continues with highlights including three festivals from Aberdeen Festivals, sporting challenges, a foodie’s dream and even the Highland Games 2018 finale. Here’s just some of the events you can’t miss this September:

 

  • Techfest [25 August – 22 September 2018]

Dig a little deeper into the science behind everyday life at our science festival. Highlights include cheese factory tours, fascinating forensics, science behind bar tendering and guest speakers including Graeme Obree - the Flying Scotsman.

The Highland Games are an iconic Scottish tradition that happen during our light summer months. The Braemar Gathering, one of the largest Highland Games events and the grand finale of the Highland Games calendar in North-east Scotland, takes place the first weekend in September.

Ready? Get set for ‘Gung-Ho! Aberdeen’, an inflatable obstacle course set in the beautiful grounds of Castle Fraser. This fun run is 5k of laughter as you take on the Thriller – the biggest inflatable slide in Europe, dodge giant 6ft balls, bounce across 5,000 sq ft of the “moon” and enter the “jungle”.

Aberdeen Restaurant Week returns after a superb inaugural event in February. This time the event is even bigger and Aberdeen Inspired will be working with over 40 restaurants across the city centre who will create a 2 course lunch menu for £10 and a 3 course dinner menu for £20.

  • NEOS [8 – 16 September]

As one of the UK's largest open studios event, North East Open Studios (NEOS) celebrates the wealth of creative talent in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.  This is your chance to meet the artists, makers and designers and be encouraged to open your doors to creativity.

Do you feel the need for speed? Grampian Motorcycle Convention returns for it’s 36th year to Grampian Transport Museum in Alford. Swing by and check out the huge range of bikes from vintage to classic to racers. You can also watch parades and demonstrations while listening to live music.

An all new drink festival in Aberdeen, G2G Festival will be held in Trinity Hall, showcasing local and national gins. Head along to a masterclass and perfect your gin cocktail skills. If you’re feeling lucky get involved in the raffle prize draw for your chance to take home some of your favourite gins.

What do you get when you pair an awesome street café line-up with over 60 stalls full of mouth-watering local produce and cooking demonstrations from chefs at some of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire’s top restaurants? Deeside Local Food Festival! The festival will also have hands-on workshops, musical entertainment and children’s activities.

True North music festival features contemporary artists in a programme of free intimate gigs. There are also festival master classes designed to provide audiences with an opportunity to meet and be inspired by festival artists. True North even has it’s own Fringe Festival too.

Prepare to get mucky as you launch yourself over mega obstacles and drag yourself through the mud. This epic 10k obstacle course has a sting in its tail but don’t worry you can sooth the sting with a wade through the icy loch water. Can you tame the primal beast?

I don’t know about you but when I ‘seafood’ I must eat it! Get it? – okay not our best. Head to Peterhead to celebrate the village’s fishing heritage with market stalls, live music and a children’s play area.
