Something Very Special....
14 November 2014
There are a number of things in Aberdeen which I feel should always be here, the list is too long to go through but the Victoria Restaurant is definitely on that list. It describes itself as “an institution” in Aberdeen and it is exactly that. It’s the only way I could describe it.
There’s something wonderful about a place that has such a long standing history but continues to be consistently pleasing and modern whilst maintaining its traditional values.
Any time I’ve been I’m always greeted warmly by one of the proprietors Gordon, whom runs the restaurant with his wife, Gillian and this occasion was no different. The staff and atmosphere are truly a credit to Gordon and Gillian as you feel relaxed right away.
We were seated next to the window (which is now my new favourite spot) for Festive Afternoon Tea which runs daily from 2.30pm – 4pm. We were met with a Strawberry Royale upon seating. This was a hit, by the way, which came as a surprise to me as often Prosecco based drinks aren’t on my list of favourites. It truly was just the right combination of sweet and fizz and went down a treat!
Then Gordon kindly asked us if we were happy with everything on the menu, which I think was a lovely touch, often when you go to afternoon tea you are brought what is on offer and that’s that.
Then the trays of cakes, scones, both savoury and sweet arrived! Boy did it arrive in style!
Jenni and I both noted that we were provided with two side plates, one for savoury and one for sweet, very practical! It’s the little things, much like a tea pot that pours well (ours did). Aberdonian lasses are easily pleased it seems!
Among the many delights on the tray we were especially impressed to see some local produce with the Portsoy smoked salmon and cream cheese on a cheese scone. The cheese scone accompanied the salmon beautifully. I especially enjoyed the open sandwich with turkey breast and the cranberry & orange relish was just right.
The Victoria Restaurant Festive Afternoon Tea is definitely the best way to have a rest mid Christmas shopping and I feel we weren’t the only ones to think so as there were a number of other parties giving it a try this afternoon. The jury is definitely in on this one and the verdict is that you have to try it!
