Not just your average activity weekend!

Activity weekends don’t just have to all about venturing the great outdoors (although there’s the option to do that here too), there’s also the chance to jam-pack your weekend with unique activities. Here are some of my top tips for an amazing weekend full of excitement:

Foodie activities

It’s no secret that Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are known for their local produce so it won’t surprise you that there are plenty of foodie activities to try out! Let celebrity chef Nick Nairn show you how to cook up a storm in the kitchen at his city centre cook school, or meet Dragon’s Den business Cocoa Ooze and try your hand at becoming a chocolatier!

Drink experiences

There’s every opportunity to sample our water of life at one of the eight whisky distilleries in Aberdeenshire. It’s here you can tour the distilleries, have tutored tastings or even bottle your own! If you want to stay central to the city, our traditional bars and stylish taverns offer specialised whisky tasting classes and host cocktail mixology classes. And for something completely different, tour the impressive BrewDog brewery – where the famous Beer was first hand-crafted in 2007 and continues to be made to this day!

Castle bagging

With over 300 castles to discover throughout Aberdeenshire, you could pack a weekend ‘castle bagging’. There are more castles per acre here than anywhere else on the British Isles! Many of these castles offer guided tours around the properties, and grounds, and also run a programme of events throughout the year (and some you can even stay in). With arguably one of the UK’s most famous castles, Balmoral Castle, as well as some of the most prominent in Scottish history, a weekend exploring castles sounds pretty good to me.

Sightseeing in the Granite City

I don’t know about you but you I can’t visit a new city without doing the typical tourist thing – sightseeing! With its classic granite buildings, historic two old towns, city beach, museums, galleries and parks, there’s plenty of activities to full your whole weekend. Keep your eye on our ‘what’s on’ calendar too and head out on one of our city walking tours.

Outdoor adventure

55 golf courses. 1 national park. 5 ski resorts. 165 miles of coastline… you get the jist, there’s every chance to explore the great outdoors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. And whether you do it by foot, by bike, by surfboard, by snowboard or by zipline – just roam free and b.r.e.a.t.h.e…

Of course you can mix any of these activities and create your very own activity weekend. Use the ‘MY ABDN’ itinerary builder on our website to create your own bespoke weekend.
