Granite Noir Festival returns to Aberdeen for 2024

The Granite City’s international crime writing festival returns for 2024. Running from 20 – 25 February with a fantastic range of thrilling events taking place across atmospheric Aberdeen 

Inspired by the incredible popularity of crime fiction, this event celebrates the love affair with Nordic Noir and the fantastic contribution of Scottish writers within the genre. With exhibitions, workshops, family events, theatre and dining experiences, there’s so much to get excited about.

David Suchet: Poirot and More: Retrospective  

Music Hall, 21 February  

Experience a rare opportunity with one of the world’s most celebrated and fascinating actors of our time. CSI: Crime Scene Improvisation

An experience like no other, CSI: Crime Scene Improvisation is a multiple five-star sell-out at the Edinburgh Fringe. Performing a rip-roaring crime comedy made up entirely on the spot, where no one knows who the killer is, not even the cast! Expect a witty and absurd murder mystery where the audience creates the story.

Children’s Workshop with Patrice Lawrence  

Aberdeen Arts Centre, 25 February  

Hosted by the writer of Elemental Detectives, Patrice Lawrence welcomes you to 1764 London, where you will meet heroes Marisee and Robert, who chase clues across the city in order to save the day. Entering a world of magic, this session will show you and your little ones how to create your very own mystical creatures inspired by the landmarks of your favourite places. It’s the perfect family day out.

Gunpowder, Tattoos and Transportation Exhibition Talk 

Cowdray Hall, Sunday 25 Feb 

In this talk with Dr Ashleigh Black, Archive Assistant for Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives, you will delve into the remarkable records held there. From the Perth Prison Register to the Register of Returned Convicts, she discusses the vivid descriptions of each inmates’ physiological characteristics including scares, distinguishing marks and their tattoos. With remarkable insight into some of Aberdeen’s most infamous criminals, this talk will take a closer look at their lives and the different meaning we can understand from their distinctive markings.

Join Kathryn Harkup at the Terrace Bar & Café as she explores the greatest exploits of James Bond. From the practicalities of building a volcano-based lair, to if its better to use bacteria, bombs, or poison to kill your enemies. This event will give you all the answers in true 007 style, over a few glasses of his favourite cocktails.
