Father's Day gifts in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire

This year give your Dad a Father’s Day experience to remember in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire (that goes further than the usual panic buy culprits of a movie boxset, aftershave or box of chocolates!). Whether your dad’s an adrenaline junkie, food hoover or whisky enthusiast, here’s my top picks of experiences to gift this Father’s Day:

1. Experiences fit for a King

Does your dad consider himself King of the house? Then driving a steam train on a railway line which once took the Royal Family from Aberdeen to Ballater between 1866 to 1966 is a perfect fit. Go full steam ahead on the Royal Deeside Railway and learn the knack of driving a Bon Accord steam train with this hands-on experience.

2. Craft beer experiences

One for the beer lovers is a tour of the BrewDog brewery based in Ellon just 30 minutes north of Aberdeen.  Learn the history behind the brand, get a sneak peek at some new products and of course taste the latest beers.

Hop from bar to bar in the city centre, where a collective of seven craft beer bars have joined forces to form a craft beer kilometre taking you on a taste journey of brews from local soil and from around the globe.

3. Relishing Sunday roasts

Maybe quality family time around the dining table is more to your dad’s taste. Across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, restaurants showcasing the best of local produce (including our Aberdeen Angus Beef) make a perfect location for a Sunday roast that ticks all the boxes.

4. Whisky tour

If a whisky is your Dad’s dram of choice, there’s plenty of distilleries here in Aberdeenshire and High Spirit Tours can get all of them ticked off the must-visit (and must-try) list. Building bespoke itineraries lasting one to seven days, you can taste your way through whisky brands like Glen Garioch, Ardmore and Glenglassaugh. Maybe treat him to a bottle too…

5. Adrenaline adventures

See if your Dad is as brave as he says and send him high into the trees at Go Ape. With a course filled with daring crossings, speeding zip wires and a leap of faith into the unknown, it’s safe to say that he’ll feel like Tarzan by the end.

Or if he’d rather keep both feet firmly on the ground, Deeside Activity Park is the place for him. Get revved up on an off-road quad biking route, channel his inner Robin Hood with archery or go full throttle on a go-karting circuit.

6. Tee off in tranquility

If your Dad’s best friends are his golf clubs, he’ll be spoilt for choice across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire with 55 spectacular links, parkland and championship golf courses.

Gift him a pass to play some of the best courses in the stunning surroundings of Royal Deeside with the Deeside Ticket. This unmissable offer provides the perfect opportunity to play three courses for £90 or five courses for £150 throughout summer.
