Everything you need to know about the Virtual Highland Games

Are you missing the Highland Games in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire this year? Us too! So we've got you covered with a special Virtual Highland Games Day.

Join us this Saturday (12 September) for our very first Virtual Highland Games Day. This is traditionally the last weekend of the games calendar. And with visitors missing out on much-loved Highland Games across Scotland the organisers of the Braemar Gathering even hosted a socially distanced and behind closed doors competition last month!

You can enjoy a taste of what to expect from the Highland Games experience by tuning into The Braemar Gathering’s Facebook channel this Saturday as they broadcast event highlights, including piping, dancing and ‘heavies’ competition, featuring competitors from the recent Netflix series ‘Home Game.’

Do you know that the Braemar event was one of the only competitive Highland games events that took place this season? It was also supported by The Duke of Rothesay (as The Prince of Wales is known when in Scotland), Patron of the Scottish Highland Games Association (SHGA). The Duke of Rothesay attended the spectator-free event and unfurled the flag at the Braemar showground. Catch up on the event highlights

The Virtual Highland Games Day is also an opportunity to take part in your own games at home. To get involved with Virtual Highland Games Day make sure you tag @visitabdn on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and use #virtualhighlandgames - wear some tartan or even host a mini-Highland games event at home.
