Autumn is in the air

Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire is truly embracing the autumn changes, as our once green, open spaces now turn shades of fiery reds and yellows. As a cooler wind breezes throughout the region, it’s the perfect time to wrap up warm and explore ancient castles and landmarks, the great outdoors of the city, fascinating attractions, all whilst feeling the crunch of leaves under your feet.

Here are some great places where you can enjoy autumn at its very best. Stay tuned until the end of this blog to see how you can win a trip for two to the North-east!

Discover Ancient Castles

‘Scotland’s castle country’ is the perfect place to be in autumn, as these historic sites look particularly Instagrammable when surrounded by fallen leaves. Castle Fraser, found just south of Inverurie, is a great example of this. Dating back to the 1450s, this castle is the perfect place to soak up an autumn atmosphere – there’s also a colourful walled garden, as well as splendid walking trails.

Heading north, you’ll find the 800-year-old fortress of Fyvie Castle. Ghosts, legends, and folklore are all weaved into this fascinating landscape that is filled with antiquities, armour and oil paintings. Much like Castle Fraser, Fyvie is home to an 18th century walled garden perfect for some autumnal exploring.

Aberdeen’s Open Spaces

There’s no shortage of parks and gardens in the Granite City that make for a great autumnal walk. Old Aberdeen, found in the north of the city, makes for a blissful experience during the autumn months as the cobbled streets get covered in crunchy leaves. You can enjoy a walk through the locally-loved Seaton Park, or by the Donmouth Nature Reserve.
