5 last minute trips to take your Mum on this Mother’s Day

First things first, to know exactly when Mother’s Day is! Don’t worry I’ve Googled it for you already – Sunday 26 March.

It’s ok you’ve still got time at the moment… but if it’s getting closer to the day and you’ve yet to plan something special then check out my top trips for spoiling your mum:

Take an adventure in Royal Deeside

If it’s good enough for the Royal Family then surely it’s good enough for your Mum.
Queen Victoria once described this majestic area as “all seemed to breathe freedom and peace”. Treat her like a Royal and head through scenic Royal Deeside towards Braemar Castle – this is actually where Queen Victoria used to stop on her way to Balmoral Castle (Balmoral Castle opens to the public on 1 April). On the way stop at Falls of Feugh for a delicious lunch with amazing views of the crashing river right beside you.

Glamping on the coast

Hobbit Homes 167

Take her on an adventure along “one of the world’s most outstanding coastlines”. Round the Aberdeenshire coast you will find endless vast dunes, sandy beaches and historic fishing villages to explore. Top it off with a night, or two, at the High Sea Hobbits. These quirky hobbits are set within the wild coast with all the cosy facilities you would expect – including a BBQ!

Fine dining and comedy

HMT blog

Treat her to a fine meal and endless laughs – can you really earn anymore brownie points with this one? Al Murray will be live at His Majesty’s Theatre on Mother’s Day with his brand new show – The Pub Landlord. But beforehand, visit the onsite restaurant 1906 – for fine dining with views across the Granite City.

Whisky, craft beer or cocktail tasting

You can’t go wrong with this one! Take your Mum out to the BrewDog brewery for a tour and beer sampling or if she’s more into the traditional craft of whisky distilling we’ve got loads of whisky distilleries nearby – spoil her with a VIP tour and sample some of our most famous malts. If you want to stay in the city centre however, we’ve got great options for cocktail making classes too!

Dolphin spotting

Dolphins 442 low res

Believe me when I say you really can see dolphins right in the centre of Aberdeen – real wild ones for that matter! And what better way to get up close and personal with them by taking your Mum on a dolphin cruise which leaves right from Aberdeen Harbour (close to Union Square if you fancy a spot of lunch and shopping first). The cruises start in April so this is one to book in advance and treat her to the following week!
