Just four weeks until The Tall Ships arrive
19 June 2025
For the first time in over a decade, Aberdeen is preparing to welcome one of the world’s most breath-taking maritime events, The Tall Ships Races 2025. With just four weeks to go, excitement is building across the city as we get ready to host an unforgettable summer celebration from 19 - 22 July 2025. Whether you're a maritime enthusiast, a curious traveller or just looking for the perfect summer adventure, this is an event that belongs at the top of your bucket list.
What are the Tall Ships Races?
The Tall Ships Races bring together a magnificent fleet of traditional sailing vessels (some over 100 years old) crewed by young people from around the globe. These majestic ships, with their towering masts and billowing sails, are more than just a visual delight. They represent a spirit of exploration, international friendship and adventure on the high seas. For a few incredible days, they will transform Aberdeen's harbour into a floating festival of culture and camaraderie.
Aberdeen in the spotlight
Aberdeen has a proud maritime past, and the return of the Tall Ships Races in 2025 marks a significant moment in the city’s history. This isn’t the first time the Granite City has welcomed these majestic vessels. Aberdeen previously hosted the event in 1991 and again in 1997, each time drawing tens of thousands of visitors and creating unforgettable memories along the bustling city harbour.
Now, more than 25 years later, Aberdeen has been chosen once again to be a host port and will be the only Scottish port in the 2025 race. This selection is a testament to the city’s vibrant maritime heritage, strong community spirit and excellent harbour facilities. Hosting the Tall Ships Races is more than just an event; it's a chance to put a spotlight on Aberdeen’s culture, creativity and hospitality on an international stage. For locals, it’s a homecoming of sorts. For visitors, it’s an invitation to see a side of the city that’s rich in history and alive with energy.

What to expect at the Tall Ships Races Aberdeen 2025
Over four thrilling days, the harbour will come alive with colour, music, food and entertainment. Visitors can enjoy everything from live performances and street theatre to local markets and maritime exhibitions. With Tall Ships lined up along the quayside and a vibrant summer atmosphere across the city, it’s an immersive experience you won’t forget.
One of the highlights of the entertainment programme is the special Quayside Concert on Sunday, 20 July, featuring Scottish favourites Tide Lines with support from Calum Bowie. Originally planned as a free event, the concert is now ticketed due to high demand, with tickets available for just £5. All proceeds will go to support Aberdeen’s RNLI lifeboat station, in recognition of the critical role the volunteer crew plays in keeping our waters safe. It’s set to be a memorable evening of music and community spirit, don’t miss your chance to be part of it!
Look out for the spectacular Crew Parade, Dorry the dolphin, dazzling firework displays and opportunities to learn about the history and stories behind these extraordinary vessels.
Get in on the action
One of the best parts of the Tall Ships Races is how hands-on the experience is. Visitors will have the rare chance to step aboard many of the ships, meet the international crews and hear first-hand what life is like sailing across the world’s oceans. There will be interactive exhibits and activities tailored for all ages, from knot-tying workshops and sailing simulators to arts and crafts, face painting and sea shanty singalongs.
Families, photographers, history buffs and curious wanderers will all find something to love!
Make it a weekend to remember
With so much happening around the harbour and city centre, why not turn your visit into a full weekend getaway? Aberdeen’s cafes, restaurants and bars will be buzzing, and many local attractions from museums to coastal trails, will be tying into the maritime theme with special offers and extended hours.
