10 things you need to know about the Highland Games

An ancient tradition honoured for centuries, our famous Highland Games are a chance to experience our rich Scottish culture with mass pipe-bands, highland dancing, the caber toss and tug-o-war but here are 10 more things you need to know about our Highland Games:

1. You might brush shoulders with royalty

2. You might bump into a few famous faces

3. You can experience the true sound of Scotland

4. You can join in some of the events

5. You'll have the sudden urge to learn Scottish Country Dancing

6. You’ll instantly want to check if you have any Scottish ancestors and if you have a Clan tartan

7. You'll be surrounded by some of the most surreal landscapes you've ever seen

8. You can go on an epic road trip and visit multiple Highland Games

9. You'll get the opportunity to try Scotland's water of life (or even take the Secret Malts of Aberdeenshire tour if you're a big whisky buff)

10. You can go castle bagging

Autumn leaves framing Braemar Castle beautifully. 😄 Who loves a bit of #castlebagging? 🏰 #visitABDN #beautifulABDN #autumnABDN #VisitScotland #ScotlandIsNow #Scotspirit #Scotland #lovegreatbritain #loveUK @Regran_ed from @a_ontheroad - • Aberdeenshire is... ...a safari in Scotland! • 🇬🇧Braemar Castle was one of the highlights of our safari (I am sure no one around here would have thought you could actually do a safari in...Scotland!) around Cairngorms National Park where the flora and fauna is absolutely lovely: Deers, eagles, mountain hares, all surrendered by dramatic castles and hidden hills! One of my favourite moments in Aberdeenshire and I definitely recommend to do it with a local guide if you can! The region has so many stories to be told! And now...it’s already time for me to leave Aberdeen’s beautiful autumn for another destination! And once again, if like me, you love that season, I am sure you are going to LOVE what’s coming next! Any guess?? . - #regrann
