10 things to see and experience in Aberdeen
4 October 2017
As Scotland’s third largest city, it’s no surprise that there’s plenty to keep you busy in Aberdeen. From sightseeing to shopping and eating out to soaking up the rich culture all around, it’s true what they say, Aberdeen really is a city that looks and feels quite different. Here’s my 10 top things you must see and experience when you visit Aberdeen:
1. Watch surfers brave the waves
Just 10 minutes from the city centre, find yourself immersed in a totally different place… one with piercing blue seas and golden sands… Aberdeen’s very own mile-long beach.
Yes, it’s true, you can actually spot dolphins from our city beach or harbour! You’ve got a pretty good chance of seeing them and if you want to get up close hop on-board a Dolphin Adventure Cruise!
3. Visit a quirky fishing quarter
One of Aberdeen’s hidden charms, Footdee (pronounced Fittie by locals) is home to squares of tiny cottages with flower filled gardens and brightly painted outhouses.
Explore the cobbled streets of Aberdeen’s old town, Old Aberdeen! Here you will find a 15th century fortified cathedral, Seaton Park, two museums, botanical gardens and the 1495 University of Aberdeen!
5. Admire the 2nd largest granite building in the world
Marischal College can be found in the city centre and is quite an impressive sight! In fact, you might have seen this iconic building across our website?
6. Ships docked next to city streets
For me this has to be one of the most unique sights in the city! Working ships dominate our harbour and actually park up right next to our city streets!
Aberdeen is well served for the foodies amongst us and what better way to sample our local produce than cooking it up yourself with celebrity chef Nick Nairn!
8. Grab a beer at a flagship bar
Founded and headquarter in Aberdeenshire, BrewDog’s first, and flagship, bar can be found in Aberdeen! You can even tag a tour of the famous brewery if you head out to Ellon in Aberdeenshire.
Aberdeen is a vibrant place with plenty of arts to set eyes on and culture to experience! Don’t miss the urban street artwork across the city centre as part of NuArt 2017!
10. Tee off from a links course
Great dunes and sandy beaches stretch along the coast of the city and throughout Aberdeenshire. In Aberdeen you will find not one, but three links golf courses…
