"The Railway Children (Musical)" by Ellon Academy Drama Club
Ellon Academy Drama Club is delighted to announce that we are presenting the musical "The Railway Children" as our School Show. This is a wonderful show and is suitable for all age groups.
The performances will be on the evenings of Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th and Friday 15th June 2018 at 7.30pm in the Theatre, Ellon Academy Community Campus.
There is a lot of hard work involved in preparing this full version of the Show, but we are having a great time. Following on from the success of our previous musicals, "The Sound of Music" (2014), "Annie" (2015), "The Music Man" (2016) and "Annie Get Your Gun" (2017), we aim to create another outstanding production.
An ideal Edwardian family Christmas is interrupted by a knock at the door and a family's life is changed forever. What happens to their Father? How will the Mother and her three children survive in their new home? What adventures await the children? Why not join us to find out?
Rehearsals have been progressing well and the Cast are getting very excited about presenting this musical. The storyline, as adapted from the book by E. Nesbit, the lyrics of Julian Woolford and music by Richard John, is set in Edwardian London and Yorkshire. The show has a beautiful, haunting musical score that in turn is up-beat, thoughtful, romantic and dramatic.
This musical represents a change of focus for the Ellon Academy Drama Club. Over the last few years, we have focused on the American musicals of Broadway. But in this musical, new challenges are presented for the Cast. One cast member said, "This is a great story line but it also allows the Cast to express their individuality and character."
Additionally, we have been finding about life in the Britain in 1905, including the impact that the Railway and trains had on the everyday lives of the nation. To this end, the Maud Railway Museum has been an enormous help in advising us on authentic railway goods and in allowing us to borrow some items for use in the how.
The show runs for 4 performances from Tuesday 12 June to Friday 15 June at Ellon Academy Theatre starting at 7.30pm each evening. Tickets costing £9 (Adult) and £6 (Concession/ Child) are on sale from the Reception, Ellon Academy and J&K Shoes, Ellon.
