A photographic essay inspired by Nan Shepherd’s book ‘The Living Mountain’ by local professional photographer Anke Addy will be open to the public daily from 11- 3 pm .

Nan Shepherd’s book ‘The Living Mountain’ (1977) is centered on a mountain range on the eastern side of Scotland and is closely associated with the high plateau of the Cairngorms. In 2003 the area became known as “The Cairngorms National Park”.

This photographic exhibition of 40 specially created works, concentrates equally on all the living elements of these mountains namely: Plateau, Air and Light, Water, Frost and Snow, Plants, Birds, Mammals and Insects. This body of work has been created with the support of a Visual Artist and Craft Makers Award from Aberdeenshire Council (VACMA ).

“For over 30 years I have walked, cycled and skied in this area and photography became a natural progression from my experiences. Nan Shepherd’s nature writing resonated with my own observations and ultimately inspired this absorbing project. During 2017 I revisited many glens and mountains to capture the rich imagery of ‘The Living Mountain’.”
