LIFTING
Aboyne artist Stephanie Vandem has created a series of large scale oil paintings “LIFTING” that visually represent the heavy weight lifting events. Individually her paintings are intimate portraits of athletes digging deep to deliver an optimum performance, Collectively they create a powerful presence of inner strength that resonates with us all. LIFTING isn’t all about burden it’s also about resilience and endurance, so ultimately, the experience of viewing these large oils in the magnificent interior of St Margaret’s will be uplifting. STONELAND, a film by Rogue Fitness also will play throughout the exhibition. STONELAND is a film that explores the stories, rituals and myths around the tradition of heavy stone lifting and celebrates some of Scotland’s most notable stone lifters. To add local historical background about the Braemar Gathering there will also be display boards and exhibits to view on loan from the he Braemar Royal Highland Society.
