Create a unique wall hanging hoop using a selection of man-made scrap materials and natural found objects. Join artist & jeweller Aubin Stewart & maker Laura Sherriffs from Fernweh and see how they re-evaluate how perceived throw away or found materials could be re-worked in a creative inspiring way and create discussion around waste. The artists will demonstrate stitching techniques, discuss materials and how to create a successful composition through the use of colour, size, texture and placement.   Participants are welcome to bring in their own found or scrap materials and fabric.    Fabric ideas: old bed linen, tablecloths, old shirt, denims, any fabric which can be stitched onto.   Found materials: driftwood, feathers, yarn, broken jewellery, watch parts, plastic waste.   As long as materials brought in are clean and safe to use, bring them along.   Aubin Stewart is a jewellery designer creating playful vibrant collections, with a strong focus colour, composition, and geometric shapes. Materials employed are often re-purposed objects which are scavenged from the Scottish coastline, collected waste streams and off cuts paired with delicate precious elements.   After graduating from Fashion Design at Grays School of Art, Laura Sherriffs went on to set up her own accessories brand, Fernweh UK. Fernweh UK is inspired by a passion for the Scottish outdoors and adventure, functional high quality design and sustainability.  This event is part of Climate Week North East 2023.
