Book launch event for Lia Sanders' most recent work that dives into the history of Aberdeenshire.

Incest, insanity and treason – just some of the subjects covered at this talk about Aberdeenshire’s unusual history.

The free event, which celebrates the launch of a new book on Aberdeen’s history, will feature stories on colourful historical characters from the North East. This is local history like you have never seen it before: intriguing, bizarre and stranger-than-fiction.

Unusual Aberdonians: 36 (ish) Lives Less Ordinary in the North East of Scotland features more than 36 biographies, including the magician who inspired Harry Houdini, a Nazi-fighting nurse and the doctor who discovered the importance of handwashing.

The book was written by Lia Sanders, owner of local tour provider Scot Free Tours which runs weekly tours of Aberdeen throughout the year. Scot Free Tours is now the top-ranked tour provider in Aberdeen, collecting TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence in 2018 and 2019.

The book will be available for purchase on the night.

Unusual Aberdonians: 36 (ish) Lives Less Ordinary in the North East of Scotland by Lia Sanders costs £7.99 and will be available from Blackwell’s Aberdeen from the 21st of November.
