Start to End Presents: Van Morrison -- Astral Weeks
The Start to End crew perform Van Morrison's second album from front to back.
After 2018’s performances of John Martyn's Solid Air and Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark, the same Start to End crew - Craig McMahon and Martin Johnston of Pronto Mama, and Admiral Fallow’s Joe Rattray - tackle Van Morrison’s seminal second album, following its 50th anniversary in 2018. An eight-track song-cycle framed in a freewheeling mix of folk, jazz and blues, Astral Weeks is also revered for its haunting evocation of Morrison’s Belfast youth, in stream-of-consciousness lyrics he’s described as “poetry and mythical musings channelled from my imagination”. Powerhouse vocalist Sam West steps up to channel the Man himself, fronting a full band line-up of leading young Scottish musicians.
