Helen Lynch is an author and academic based in the Department of English and Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen. Her book The Elephant and the Polish Question, a collection of interlinked short stories set in Poland during the collapse of Communism, got published in 2009. Her second collection, Tea for the Rent Boy, completed with the help of a Creative Scotland Writer's Bursary, was published in 2018. Her academic study, Milton and the Politics of Public Speech (Ashgate, Jan 2015), focuses on Samson Agonistes, Paradise Regained and the political prose of Milton and his contemporaries, using Hannah Arendt’s account of the Greek polis to illuminate seventeenth-century oratorical discourse. Helen will be offering some insights into her life as a writer as well as reading from some of her work. There is a charge of £3 that is payable at the venue on the night.
