Northern Lens is a new Youth Film Festival taking place on 16th June 2024 at the Lemon Tree in Aberdeen. As part of the Light the Blue Festival, Station House Media Unit, in partnership with Aberdeen Performing Arts, are hosting the film festival with support from the Sean Connery Foundation to celebrate youth filmmaking across the country, with a spotlight on the North East.

The festival will include screenings of short films, following a youth-led curation process, practical workshops, an inspirational industry panel activity for aspiring filmmakers,a marketplace highlighting local training and education opportunities and networking sessions. The day will act as an inspiring and informative celebration event, introducing future filmmakers to the industry, whilst supporting current young filmmakers to make connections and use the festival as a platform to share their creativity.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

All Day – Marketplace and networking

1200 – 1215 Welcome and introduction to the day

1215 – 1315 Screening Session 1: Suitable for all

1330 – 1430 Beyond the Lens: Special Effects and Make-up. A practical workshop where participants get to see how make-up is used to change appearances in the film-making process.

1445 – 1545 Screening Session 2: Suitable for all

1600 – 1700  Behind the Lens: A practical workshop which gives participants an introduction to camera and lighting skills.

1730 – 1830 Screening Session 3: Suitable for 12+

1845 – 1945 Through a Northern Lens: Industry Panel – Careers in the film-making industry in the North East of Scotland aimed at future filmmakers.

Our multi-artform festival created for young people, by young people. Taking place this June across various city venues, Light the Blue is an electrifying line up of theatre, dance, music, film, circus and more.

The festival features a series of collaborations with organisations from around Scotland and beyond including Scottish Youth Theatre, Imaginate , Big Noise Torry and many more , with young performers rubbing shoulders with professional artists in a true celebration of the perfor m ing arts.
