Niteworks
After overwhelming demand Niteworks have added an extra date on their sold out farewell tour. Announcing that on November 14th they’ll play Music Hall, Aberdeen, following on previously announced shows in Inverness, Edinburgh and London before their final ever performance in Glasgow. This will be fans’ last opportunity to get tickets for a Niteworks show as no further dates will be announced.
Having sold out shows in Aberdeen several times before, this will be Niteworks first time playing the historic Music Hall – chosen as not many venues in the city can handle the scale of the tour production. The band had hoped to announce an Aberdeen show from the beginning and are ecstatic that the stars have now aligned to do so. Following 17 years spearheading Scotland’s folk and electronica scene, and a string of critically acclaimed releases, the band announced late last year that 2024 would be their final year together. This tour marks the pinnacle of their farewell year.
Their final tour, titled the Solas Na Maidne Tour, translates from Gaelic as “Morning Light” or “Daybreak.” The band chose this name to symbolise the conclusion of their “night’s work” and the end of Niteworks as a group. Themes of night and day have been a consistent thread throughout Niteworks’ discography, with tracks like “Beul na h-Oidhche” (“Nightfall”) and albums such as Air Fàir an Latha (“Dawn of the Day”) and A’ Ghrian (“The Sun”). This tour will take these themes even further, using visual storytelling to depict the band’s journey over the years, represented by the transition from nightfall to sunrise.
Speaking on the announcement, Allan MacDonald of Niteworks said: “From the outset we were hoping that we could bring the Solas show to Aberdeen, so we’re over the moon that we’ve been able to pull this together. We’ve had great memories playing in Aberdeen over the years. And – as a big Dons fan – Chris, our bass player, was keen to bring some good news to Aberdeen following Miovski’s departure!”
The band released their final single earlier this Summer “An Toll Dubh” (“The Dungeon”), which features the stunning vocals of long-time collaborators Sian (Ceitlin Lilidh, Eilidh Cormack, and Ellen MacDonald), with Fiona MacAskill on fiddle. Originally written and performed by Runrig’s Calum and Rory Macdonald, it was co-produced by Niteworks and Andrea Gobbi. With lyrics urging the preservation of Gaelic culture and language, the band believes this song is the perfect choice for their swan song.
