Hammered is a musical retelling of the first Scottish wars of independence told entirely with one man and a guitar, aiming to right the wrongs of the notorious 1995 film Braveheart by being as historically accurate as possible. Written and performed by Alexander Tait, this comedic piece of musical storytelling is inspired by shows like Flight of the Conchords and Horrible Histories and is an effort to explain the real events behind iconic moments in Scottish History in a way that’s less… boring.

Ma Name Is Isabelle is a reimagining of the story behind the famous bothy ballad Bogie’s Bonnie Belle. Told entirely in Doric, the traditional dialect spoken in the North-East of Scotland, this spoken-word performance unveils the story of Isabelle—a young woman who was impregnated against her will by her lover, James, on her father’s farm. She expresses the challenges she encountered in her relationship with James and emotionally conveys the conflicts she faced as she navigated life as an unmarried mother whose son was taken from her. Isabelle’s journey is marked by her resilience, strength and triumph over adversity.
Age guidance: 12+ due to depictions of sexual harassment and mild language
Performer bio: Lucy Beth (she/her/hers) is an award-nominated emerging performer, theatre-maker and teacher from Inverurie, Aberdeenshire. In 2023, she graduated with Distinction from the University of Glasgow’s MLitt Theatre and Performance Practices course after being awarded a PGT Excellence Scholarship by the university.
As a performer, in 2024, Lucy was nominated for the Artist of the Year Award at the Scottish Emerging Theatre Awards.
Lucy has worked on various stage, screen, and audio projects. Notably, she played Blanca in Ten Feet Tall’s production of “Guilty” by Rona Munro at Granite Noir Festival. She has also starred in TMM Recruitment’s Christmas Advert, “Scary Tale of New Work,” and understudied the Fairy Godmother in Talegate Theatre’s production of “Dick Whittington.”
Beyond conventional performing, part of Lucy’s practice concerns dialect preservation. She speaks Doric and seeks to create and perform works in Doric as a means of continuing to render the dialect present. In 2024, she won the Best Newcomer Award at The Doric Film Festival. Her solo theatre show, “Ma Name Is Isabelle,” was commissioned by Eden Court Theatre and Tobar an Dualchais / Kist O Riches for the Scrieve Project as part of the 2024 Under Canvas Festival.
Lucy is also a drama teacher who works in various educational settings, teaching students of different ages and backgrounds. She frequently guest lectures at colleges and leads youth theatre classes. Additionally, she serves as the resident drama tutor at The Gaitherin. Lucy has experience teaching in additional support needs, enhanced provision, and nurture settings. She has also taught at the International British Theatre School and has lead drama classes to home-educated young people.
