Life and Death in the City: Excavations at Aberdeen Art Gallery
Steven Watt, AOC Archaeology
Soon after Aberdeen Art Gallery redevelopment works began in 2015, AOC Archaeology conducted a watching brief on the site, the location of a 13th century Dominican Friary. Excavations revealed the remains of over 400 individuals from medieval and post-medieval graves and a Victorian charnel house. Steven looks at what the evidence reveals, including possible graveyard management, and insights into the lives of the people whose remains were discovered.
