A Hogmanay full of music, atmosphere and tradition

From traditional ceilidhs to lively pub gigs, Aberdeen’s Hogmanay offers plenty of ways to celebrate. Soak up the atmosphere at one of the city’s music venues or wander through festive streets where pop-up performances and joyful gatherings bring the night to life. And as midnight arrives, listen out for the ships’ horns echoing across the harbour to welcome the New Year.

Celebrate Hogmanay in style at local hotels & venues

Looking to welcome the New Year with great food, live entertainment and a touch of luxury? Across the city and shire, hotels and venues are hosting special Hogmanay events, here are just a few highlights:

  • Sandman Signature Hotel, Aberdeen; enjoy a welcome drink, buffet favourites, a nachos station, live music from Mustand and a midnight toast with dancing until 2am.
  • Banchory Lodge Hotel, Banchory; devour a delicious three-course meal with live music, late-night stovies and plenty of chamapagne, beers and cocktails to taste the New Year.
  • The Douglas Hotel, Aberdeen; Champagne reception, five-course meal with wine, entertainment from the Heartland band and dancing until 2am, overnight pacakages available.
  • Beach Ballroom Ceilidh, Aberdeen; traditional Hogmanay ceilidh with live bands, stovies and a glass of bubbly at midnight.

The Stonehaven Fireballs 

Welcome the New Year with one of Scotland's most dramatic traditions - the Stonehaven Fireballs!  As the the clock strikes midnight on 31 December, skilled performers will parade through the town swinging blazing fireballs above their heads, lighting up the night in a breathtaking display of heat, sparks and celebration.  To avoid disappointment, we recommend arriving anytime from 22:00 to secure a good viewing spot, entry gates will close at 23:40.

Celebrate Hogmanay with a Traditional Ceilidh

  • Bells at the Bettridge Ceilidh – Family-friendly event with the Crynoch Band, doors 7.30pm–12:45am
  • Braemar Village Hall Ceilidh – Dance to Graeme Mitchell’s Ceilidh Band; bring your own bottle and glasses.
  • Castleton Hall Ceilidh (Braemar Creative Arts) – A lively, family-friendly ceilidh for all ages.
  • Beach Ballroom Hogmanay Ceilidh, Aberdeen – Hipflask Ceilidh Band and Bucksburn Mini Pipe Band, including stovies and a glass of bubbly at midnight; over 14s only.
